Texarkana is the largest city in the Bowie and Miller County region. It is a thriving metro-center serving nineteen counties in four states. A diversified economy is supported by manufacturing, agriculture, medical, transportation, and retail. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the moderate climate and a variety of recreational and entertainment activities, such as golfing, areas parks and lakes, museums, theater and annual events like the Four States Fair & Rodeo and Quadrangle Festival.

Two acute care hospitals, two rehabilitation hospitals, a treatment center for disabled adults and children, two dialysis centers, and a diabetes clinic. Special needs of the elderly are filled by 11 full-care nursing homes and 10 retirement and assisted living facilities. Home health services, meals-on-wheels program, and hospice services are readily available. New Boston adds an additional 63 bed hospital, 3 rehabilitation facilities and a nursing care facility.
Many award winning public and private schools are a part the Texarkana and New Boston School Districts. Texarkana also has two colleges. Texarkana College is a fully accredited comprehensive community college serving approximately 6000 academic-credit students and over 9000 non-credit students.
